Love & Marriage in the Kitchen of the Polo Grill

Who can possibly forget what Chef Jean-Louis Palladin said..."When and if you marry, be prepared to tell your spouse that your career will always be number one in your life."

In the interest of reporting the subject in question, his marriage ultimately did not survive. The hours alone make the restaurant business extremely difficult on the institution of marriage, or for that matter, any relationship. To most of the industry, the real marriage is with the restaurant you happen to be working with at the time. Everyone knows that, but many find a way to make it work. Many never figure it out.

Our first column on the subject of relationships takes us to Tulsa, Oklahoma and the husband and wife proprietor chefs of the popular, and very successful Polo Grill. Ouida and Robert Merrifield have built a wildly successful concept over the past 20 years, and have somehow figured out a way to stay ostensibly happy, and absolutely married. Also in the interest of reporting, this is the second marriage for both of them.
